Next-Level Freedom Is Hiding Right Under Your Nose
What do you think when you think of freedom? Many of us think of our human rights, the ability to make our own choices and the protection from being harmed by others.
But what about personal freedom? The freedom to set your own destiny, to confidently live your purpose and to boldly design a life that you love? Thinking about having this much freedom can get a little tricky, because at this point most of us start to self-sabotage and get in our own way.
In my experience, it’s not outside influence, but actually self-sabotage that stops us. I used to be such a perfectionist and so concerned about not making mistakes that I unknowingly held myself back from pursuing my dreams. But once I learned how to overcome that behavior, I found much more freedom because it wasn’t able to control me any longer.
The great news is, there is a way to override your autopilot before self-sabotage even has a chance to set in.
The first thing you absolutely must do is notice.
98% of people are just going through their day reacting to the world around them. They don’t have control over their thoughts, so their thoughts are controlling them.
When you notice the thoughts you are having, you discover that you have the ability to change them.
As soon as the thought appears, “Why should I even try, I’ll just embarrass myself. Who’s going to listen to me anyway?” you simply notice that you’re having that thought.
Then you ask yourself, is this the kind of thought I want guiding my life?
If the answer is no, then you choose a different thought. Maybe it sounds more like, “I’m going to put myself out there and I have no idea if I’m going to succeed on my first try. But I’m determined and I’m not giving up.”
Simply by noticing, you give yourself the ability to change direction, and literally create a new trajectory for yourself. This is the difference between starting a business or putting it off. The difference between getting that acting role or being afraid to audition. It all begins by noticing.
This is the first step to personal freedom.
