Discover Purpose In Your Career
Life is never made unbearable by circumstances, but only by lack of meaning and purpose.
Viktor E. Frankl
All of us want to feel fulfilled. We want to feel on purpose, and know that what we do matters.
But do you have to go to a spiritual retreat, start a nonprofit or quit your job and become an organic farmer to discover your purpose?
I think there is a romanticism around doing a total 180 in life and starting something completely new and outside of the box.
But dramatic change is not necessary to finding your purpose. In fact, purpose is not tied to circumstance at all.
Whether you would love for your life to look different than it does right now or not, all of us can be filled with purpose, in this moment, from where we stand today.
You are fully equipped with purpose just as you are. And as you take steps toward your vision, your purpose will simply expand and your fulfillment will deepen.
3 Tips to Get in Touch with Your Purpose from Where You Are Now
#1 Ask Quality Questions
The quality of the questions we ask determines the quality of our lives. When we ask lower vibrational questions like “Why does this always happen to me?” and “How am I ever going to afford a new car?” we are going to get answers on that level, too.
Those questions imply struggle and lack, and that’s what we create more of when we focus our attention there.
Better questions begin with “what.” For example, “What can I do in this moment to be in alignment with my purpose?” “What do I really love?” “What matters to me?”
When you listen for answers to these questions, do you think you’re going to be more connected to your true, authentic purpose? You bet!
And it probably has nothing to do with big, sweeping changes. Being on purpose in the present moment is often as simple as celebrating your kid’s wins for the day, checking in with a friend who could use some support, or writing that proposal that you’ve been scared to submit.
You may have a vision for life that seems way different than the way things are right now. That’s ok.
But you don’t have to hit a certain goal or milestone to have purpose. It is more about acting with authenticity and integrity with who you are than anything else.
And good, quality questions will help you get there.
#2 Be your Most Authentic YOU
How do you know when you’re being authentic?
Imagine that you are the woman or man in your vision. It’s three years in the future and you’ve created a life you’re in love with.
What does it feel like to be this version of you?
You probably feel really good, warm and happy and at peace on the inside.
That good feeling of being calm yet full of aliveness is a sign you’re on the right track.
And there’s no reason you can’t capture that feeling now.
The more you embody that version of yourself now, before you’ve achieved all of your goals, the more you are going to set yourself up to actually achieve them.
Your vision starts from the inside and expands into being based on your energy, who you’re BEING and how you’re thinking, acting and experiencing the world.
#3 Live from the Vision
By asking the right questions and embodying the most expansive, authentic version of yourself you are living from a higher frequency - the frequency where you become aligned to the results you really want in your life.
The next tip is to not just feel like that version of you, but to take action from that place as well.
Once you know what your authentic vision is and how it feels, this is the question that will propel you forward:
“What can I do with where I am and what I have to move toward my vision today?”
No matter what your circumstances are in the present moment, there is always a step you can take that will bring your vision into your current reality.
By asking questions and listening to your inner voice, being your truest self, and making little choices that lead you into your vision, you ARE living your purpose.
You’re being fully and authentically YOU and that’s where purpose and fulfillment live.
And that’s exactly who this world needs.
